Ray Rice | Domestic Violence | Criminal Defense
According to CNBC, The Baltimore Ravens recently cut ties with football player Ray Rice. Rice was recently caught in a domestic violence assault towards his fiancé. The video was shot in February and recently surfaced that running back for the Baltimore Ravens, punched Janay Palmer, now wife, in the face in an elevator of the Revel casino in New Jersey. After Palmer appeared to be knocked out from consciousness from the blow, Rice was revealed on the video dragging her limp body out of the elevator.
Months later, he was indicted by an Atlantic County jury on one count of aggravated assault; pleading not guilty. After such time he agreed to enter a pre-trial intervention program upon the completion of which the criminal charges would be dropped. Rice at the time of the conviction initially received a two-game suspension by the NFL league that was just modified to an indefinite ban since the release of the graphic video tape. Baltimore Ravens completely severed ties with former running back.
Domestic violence is a serious offense and one facing such criminal charges should seek representation from an experienced Criminal Defense attorney as such consequences may be severe.
In this circumstance the spot light that the former running back received propelled the football team to remove such offenses and negative attention from the team – as domestic violence against women is a serious matter.
If you know anyone that is being assaulted or abused it is important to report such matters to the proper authority and help to stop domestic violence.

Here at Blick Law Firm we offer a wide range of personal injury services including the following:
- Automobile/Motorcycle Accidents
- Slip and Fall Injuries
- Premises Liability, Including Mold Exposure
- Products Liability
- Dog Bites
- Marine and Boating Accidents

Injury Claim fees are on a contingency fee basis. This means the attorney fees are paid out at the end of a settlement. So in other words no fees to the attorney, unless your case prevails. In Florida, standard attorney contingency fee is 33.33% of the recovery.
In certain cases, a personal injury matter may be more complex and require litigation. In this instance, a lawsuit is filed and the case goes before the court and will ultimately be determined by a jury. The fee associated with cases that reach litigation is higher due to the complexity of legal services. In the state of Florida, the appropriate attorney fee in this instance is 40% of the recovery.
Whether the injury is caused from an auto accident, slip and fall, or exposure to a defective product you should seek a personal injury attorney to assist with your claim.
If you or a loved one have been in an auto accident and need legal advice, call Blick Law Firm today to schedule a free 15-minute consultation with attorney Michael Blickensderfer.

Mike Brown | Police Assault | Criminal Defense Attorney
According to New York Times, a man had been shot and killed after he had assaulted a police officer and the two had struggled over the officer’s gun inside his patrol car.
18-year-old, Mike Brown was the unarmed black teenager killed in a fatal shooting on Saturday by a police officer in a St. Louis suburb. However, the death of the youth, caused heavy protests on Saturday and Sunday in Ferguson, Mo. Hundreds of people gathered at the scene of the shooting to question the police and to light candles for Mr. Brown.
Currently, elected officials and advocacy groups held a full investigation and questioned the tactics of the police, who acknowledged that Mr. Brown had been unarmed.
Acts of police assault warrant arrest and criminal charges; unlike this unfortunate incident that occurred over this past weekend.
Law enforcement must have probable cause or a warrant to make an arrest. If a law enforcement officer has a reasonable belief, that there is in fact a high probability that you have been involved in criminal activity, the police officer may arrest you. If you are arrested, this means that you are officially being charged with a crime. As opposed to a detainment, you do not have the right to leave once an arrest has taken place. Once the arrest has been made, you can be held in jail for up to 24 hours, and you may have to pay bail to be released from custody.
It is important to quickly seek legal representation upon an arrest to protect your rights. A Criminal Defense Attorney can provide you with legal counsel, and advise you in regards to your rights. An experienced lawyer can also advise you in the actions and procedures that need to take place going forward. Call Blick Law Firm today for a free 15-minute consultation. Think Quick, Call Blick!

4th of July | Firework Safety | Summer Safety
4th of July: The day is celebrated by parades, fireworks and barbecues across the country. Independence Day is celebrated in acknowledgement of the Declaration of Independence being approved by the Continental Congress in 1776, setting the 13 colonies on the road to freedom and liberty.
Fireworks have become a symbol in the commemoration of our independence on the 4th of July, and they play a major role in American’s celebration of this day. Seeing fireworks shoot off in the sky brings fond moments, as bright lights flash in a glittery display for all to see; but, if not used with safety and caution, fireworks can cause harmful situations, resulting in serious damages and injury to those involved.
Fireworks not only have damaging effects on property, but also heighten the risk for injury; this is especially true under the influence of alcohol. Firework personal injury claims are especially high in the month of July. Florida fireworks are not only illegal but may result in severe hand, body, arm and/or leg injuries, or even worse, it can result in death.
In Florida, it is illegal to buy, sell, or explode consumer fireworks. You can do so, however, if you have a city permit. Be aware that if you are shooting off fireworks without a permit, you are breaking the law, which may result in unnecessary fines and a possible police investigation. If law enforcement decides to crack down and you’re caught buying or shooting off illegal fireworks, it is a first-degree misdemeanor.
It is important to be aware that most of the fireworks sold in Florida are illegal. Consumers are usually unaware that the only fireworks that are allowed for personal use without obtaining a special county permit are those classified as “sparklers”. This category of “sparklers” includes a very limited amount of incendiary items.
Legally, the fireworks merchants have their customers sign liability waivers explaining that the fireworks are illegal for personal use; the costumer attests that he is aware of the illegality of the purchase, and signs that he will be using the fireworks for a legal purpose. The legal purpose for use of these consumer fireworks only includes the following:
(A) you have a city permit to shoot off fireworks for the public to enjoy;
(B) you will use the explosives to scare off birds from a farm or fish hatchery; or
(C) you work on a railroad and need to light or clear a path for your train.
These reasons are rarely examined by the purchasers, and most times the customer makes the purchase unaware of the consequences of their illegal use. The reason that persons continue to make the fireworks purchases is because they are unaware, and the law is rarely enforced.
If you or a loved one is injured while using or observing fireworks celebrations, call Blick Law Firm to schedule a free 15 minute consultation.
