Tampa X-ray machine on steriods stops arrestees from putting just anything in their body
Hard to swallow, but now, easy to find: MyFoxTAMPABAY.com
Tampa- Local county jails experience some interesting findings during old-fashioned strip searches. However cause for concern reveals that a strip search can not hide everything. That is why there is the Secure Pass.
In Pasco County Jail recent arrestee, Sherese Hutchinson was found with a syringe, five baggies and a piece of tin foil, all inside her body.
Many who are booked for jail try to bring things of the outside world with them whether it be drugs or weapons. But the new Secure Pass should limit this problem.
“This is an x-ray machine on steroids,” remarked Sheriff Chris Nocco.
The x-ray machine scanner shows images that appears on a screen within the jail’s booking area, and within a few hours any suspected drug smugglers will be caught.
This year, two dozen cases of people trying to sneak drugs into the jail have been investigated.
The Secure Pass cost $195,000, and ironically, it was paid for with money seized from drug dealers.
Tampa Bay Jaywalking on Fletcher Avenue leads to safety project planning
In recent news, Fletcher Avenue between Nebraska Avenue and Bruce B Downs Blvd is causing commotion. It is so problematic for crossing the street that traffic experts have deemed the stretch of road as Hillsborough County’s most dangerous bike/pedestrian corridor.
According to the TBT, three jaywalkers have died since January 2006 and 97 others have been involved in accidents.
About 40,000 vehicles a day travel on Fletcher between Nebraska and Bruce B Down. Crossing the street illegally will not only put you at risk but many others driving between the four lanes.
Since January there have been 3,722 jaywalking warnings and 761 citations at $49.50 each.
What is being done to prevent jaywalking?
A $4 million plan is being put into action to prevent jaywalking. The work will include: five mid-block pedestrian crossings, concrete and landscape medians, shrubbery, bike lanes, speed limit reduction, and signs and strobe lights.
Most of the design work is complete with $2.5 million set aside for the construction. Grants to complete the funding are being sought.
Please be safe when crossing the road. Use a crosswalk and look both ways so you are not a victim to accidents. If you or your loved ones have been injured due to crossing the road please contact your tampa personal injury attorney today so we may be of some assistance. 813-931-0840. think quick, call Blick.

Tampa Bay: Skipping jury duty could mean jail time
Tampa- If you haven’t already picked up the TBT today, you should know this. On Monday 387 people skipped out of Jury Duty in Hillsborough County. Consequences? A judge is coming after you.
According to the TBT, Circuit Judge Gregory Holder decided he will take action against those no-shows that dodged their duty. The judge issued an “order to show cause” which will summon those absent to a hearing on November 4 for questioning. Penalties for those without a legitimate excuse will be possibly fined or face jail time. Those that do not show to the ordered hearing will be issued an arrest warrant.
In Hillsborough County alone, about 25 percent of people already do not respond to a juror summons. In Pinellas, the number is about 13 percent. On Monday, those 387 no-shows made up for the 25 percent. 387 out of 1,523 did not attend their summons. That does not include those with excuses that have been exempt from duty.
Missing jurors put a real delay in the legal system. Defendants have a right to speedy trial; lawyers and others involved have strict schedules.
So why skip? Majority do not show due to work conflicts. Fear of losing their job while serving jury duty can cause many not to take that chance. Another downside? Time. The Casey Anthony trial has not helped things. Now people might assume jury duty may take weeks out of their already valuable time.
In Hillsborough, most cases last only a few days.

Facts can be hard to come by but one fact that is undeniable is the injury increase that comes with age. With age comes wisdom, but with age should not come an added statistic to the reason for the $20 billion annual spending in treatment of injuries to older people.
