Healthy sleeping positions to reduce further neck and back pain
According to CNN’s article, which sleep position is healthiest? It points out that the position you sleep in can be beneficial or can actually harm your body’s overall health.
Not only can this help you in the long run with regard to healthy sleeping habits, but sleeping correctly may help your personal injury claim as well!! Think about it… If you have been recently injured in an auto accident, sleeping the right way may enhance the healing process and help you recover faster.
Your preferred p.m. pose could be giving you back and neck pain, tummy problems, even premature wrinkles. Below are the best and worst positions for your body.
The Best: Back Position
- Prevents neck and back pain, reduces acid reflux, and minimizes wrinkles.
- Bad for: snoring
Sleeping on your back makes it easy for your head, neck and spine to maintain a neutral position. It does not force extra curves into your back and is ideal for fighting acid reflux.
**Back-sleeping prevents wrinkles because there is nothing pressing on your face.
The Next Best: Side Position
- Prevents neck and back pain, reduces acid reflux, snoring less and sleeping during pregnancy.
- Bad for: Your skin – can cause wrinkles.
Side-sleeping is great for overall health because it reduces snoring and keeps your spine elongated. Helps reduce acid reflux.
**If you are pregnant, sleeping on your left side is ideal for blood flow.
Not Ideal: Fetal Position
- Helps reduce snoring and okay for sleeping while pregnant
- Bad for: Can cause neck and back pains and wrinkles.
Resting in a fetal position is not a great idea. May cause future unease to your back and joints. This curved position may restrict diaphragmatic breathing as well.
The Worst: Stomach Position
- Reduces Snoring
- May cause neck and back pain and wrinkles.
Stomach-sleeping makes it difficult to maintain a neutral position with your spine and the pose puts pressure on joints and muscles, which can irritate nerves and lead to pain, numbness, and tingling.
Overall the best sleeping position is on your back! If you have recently been injured in an accident, the back position will help to elevate the head and keep alignment neutral for recovery.

Blick Law Firm is a small Tampa Bay Law Firm of about 13 employees that specializes in Bankruptcy, Personal Injury and Real Estate Law.
The “Best Places to Work” award recognizes companies that excel in attracting and retaining employees by fostering a positive work environment and unique corporate culture.

The employee survey measures 10 key engagement categories focusing on items including team effectiveness, trust in senior leaders, feeling valued, manager effectiveness, compensation and benefits. Responses from each question of each completed survey are compiled and evaluated. Fifty-seven local companies were ranked and were selected as finalists for the 2011 Best Places to Work by the Tampa Bay Business Journal.
“We are delighted to have been selected as a finalist by the Tampa Bay Business Journal,” said Dana Blickensderfer, public relations specialist for Blick Law Firm. “We work hard to make sure our employees work in a supportive and positive environment. They are the face of Blick Law Firm, representing what we stand for.”
Winners for the “Best Place to Work in Tampa Bay” awards will be announced on April 21, 2011 at the awards banquet held at Tampa Bay’s Lowry Park Zoo.

The Fuel that Drives a Law Family
TAMPA — Mike Blickensderfer, president of Blick Law Firm, measures the success of his business by a unique standard: His family wants to work there too.
“My wife and each of my children have different talents, and I’m fortunate because they are putting them to use at our law firm,” said Blickensderfer, whose Tampa firm is well-known in motorcycle circles and in community groups on the West Coast.
Mike’s wife, Vivian, is the marketing manager of Blick Law Firm, Dana Blickensderfer, 22, is the public relations and social media director, and son Steven looks to be joining his father as an attorney at the firm after his graduation from University of Florida Levin College of Law in May.
“It’s such a blessing to see our each of our children use their talents to help out the business,” said Vivian Blickensderfer. “They wanted to do it.”
Eldest daughter, Danielle — now studying architecture in New York — was the first one to work at the firm, and then handed the reins to sister, Dana.
“Danielle was the one who started it all for me and my brother,” said Dana Blickensderfer. “She was looking for something to do while going to school and she was the gatekeeper of the firm.”
Blick Law Firm holds seminars hosted by Vivian, sponsors events put on by Dana, and works with groups of realtors, doctors and other attorneys to generate the business.
While family comprises the nucleus of the team, the 13 non-family employees play a vital role to running a diverse practice.
The Blick Law Firm has been nominated by The Tampa Business Journal as one of the top places to work in Tampa Bay.
“Our faith is about helping one another in the community,” Dana Blickensderfer said. “The foundation of our business is helping the hurting.”
Compassion is critical in a business that deals with family law issues.
“Unfortunately, some cases involve death and we help the family cope,” Dana Blickensderfer said. “Mike is really good at listening and supporting the family. But he’s also very good at taking care of the legal stuff that they can’t do on their own.”
Compassion — and understanding — also play a strong role inside the office.
“We keep our morale high by having little giveaways every month, spending time with each other, and keeping communication lines open,” Dana Blickensderfer said.
Mike Blickensderfer said the practice has evolved over the years.
Tampa Bay home prices hit new low
The housing woes continue.
Tampa Bay area home prices fell by 1 percent in January and hit their lowest level since they peaked in early 2006, according to a Standard & Poor’s/Case-Shiller home price index released Tuesday.
The bay area and 10 other cities — Atlanta; Phoenix; Charlotte, N.C.; Detroit; Las Vegas; Chicago; New York; Miami; Portland, Ore.; and Seattle — are at their lowest levels since home prices peaked in 2006 and 2007, the index showed.
Nationally, the index of property values in 20 cities fell 3.1 percent from January 2010, the biggest year-over-year drop since December 2009, the index showed.
Although prices continue to fall, bay area sales of existing homes incr… Read More.
